The Power of the Acoustic Music Web

Posted on June 23, 2010, under blog.

So earlier today, I discovered the power of the interweb as it relates to acoustic music. Its truly amazing what it has done for all industries out there, and espcially the music industry. I for one am super grateful for the fact that music is so easily accessible and that artist have one more avenue to get their music out to the world. I’m also very glad that I can find new music – especially acoustic music with the click of a few buttons. Its pretty amazing!

I also wanted to take a quick opportunity to inform you all about some of the SWEET updates that we’ve done with the site in the last month or so. So here it goes:

1. Top 100 – we have made a list of what we feel are the best acoustic songs ever. There are 100 – all of which you can listen to – thanks to GrooveShark. Go check it out ans ee what you think – funny thing is most people just get angry at you for making a list and tell you how bad it is and how you know nothing about music…poor, poor souls. They don’t get the first thing there is to know about music – its a little subjective!

2. Easy Acoustic Songs – I know that when I was first learning guitar, it would have been nice to have a nice simple list of easy acoustic songs to learn. So we decided to make it super simple. We have made a list of songs that are very, very easy to play to get you all started on the woderful acoustic guitar journey

3. Special Artist Contact – we’ve been getting some requests for independent artists to get featured on the site, so we made a special contact form, directing those who want thousands of acoustic song listeners to hear their stuff. Its been a great way for upcoming artists to get some good exposure. Check it out here if you want to be featured on the site.

Keep it real, and thanks for your love of music.

Why Are Simple and Easy Songs Good Acoustic Songs?

Posted on April 20, 2010, under blog.

If you have played acoustic guitar for any given period of time, you probably have seen that some very good acoustic songs come from very simple and easy to play riffs. Writing songs is one of the hardest things to do. I know I’ve struggled with it, and usually find myself complicating things more and more as I try to squeeze some creativity out of myself. Some sometimes easy acoustic songs are some of the very best acoustic songs.

There are countless examples. Although the acoustic guitar playing community seems to get annoyed by it, we all know that “Good Riddance” by Greenday is an amazing song. It requires what, a total of 4 simple chords? An old favorite of mine “Save Tonight” by Eagle Eye Cherry plays the same four chords the entire song! So the next time you think about trying to complicate your song to get more out of it, you should try and simplify it.

And there is also something to be said about the beauty of what I like to call the “standard punk teenager.” I was one, and you probably were too. You wake up one day and decide you want to learn to play the guitar. You call your buddy who you think knows how to play and he tells how to play a G, C, and D. You spend 5 hours a day for the next week playing those three chords. You are in love. You want to learn more, so what do you do? You look for easy acoustic songs to play. The same 10 songs are played by thousands of up-and-coming guitarists every single year. You gotta love it.

Top 10 Best Acoustic Songs List – Countdown Style

Posted on March 23, 2010, under blog.

Disclaimer: Make sure after reading this post to check out our Top 100 Best Acoustic Songs list as well!

I’ve heard a lot of acoustic songs in my day, and I’ve been exposed to a wide variety of acoustic artists in my time. As I’ve heard all different types of acoustic music, particular songs and artists seem to rise to the surface. As any music lover will know, any sort of “top 10” list is always a CURRENT list, which always seems to change. Its been a while since I’ve talked about my top 10 list, so here it goes. Hopefully you’ll find some cool acoustic songs in the mix.

As I list these, the easiest way for me to think about what is really happening with this list is to ask myself “If there were 10 acoustic songs that I could put in a playlist and listen to all day, what songs would they be?” Here is what I have come up with:

10.Get Up Kids – Out of Reach
For its emo line – “I’ve got pictures to prove I was there!”
9. Arcade Fire – Intervention
For the organ and the originality. Super cool song.
8. Joshua Radin – Paperweight
What can I say? – harmonies are the 8th wonder of the world to me.
7. Eliot Morris – No One Has To Know
I want to sing this with my wife every single night.
6. Poison – Every Rose Has Its Thorn
Its classic, it tells a story, and they are an 80’s hair band!
5. Damien Rice – Elephant
For the power of the last chorus in the song. Go listen to it.
4. Jason Mraz – Lucky
Because everyone in love should feel this way. And play this at their wedding.
3. The Beatles – Yesterday
Somehow they’ve captured love and regret all in the same song.
2. Ben Folds – Luckiest
Because this world is a better place because of songs like this.
1. Missy Higgins – The Special Two
She’s Australian, and I saw her live and fell in love.

Chances are you’ve heard way too much of a couple of those, and haven’t eve heard of some of the others. I encourage all to check them out. As always feel free to suggest new songs for the sight, or submit your own songs. We’ve had a lot of requests for new songs, and we’re happy to post your music and help you reach a targeted, interested audience.

Thanks for your love of music!
